Step Four: "Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves."
Fearless" simply means without fear. This is the attitude with which you approach your moral inventory. Being fearless allows you to view your inventory objectively, as you uncover the pain. You will be looking at what was done to you, and what you have done to yourself and others.
Many of the experiences you will be looking at are extremely painful. For some, the painful experience was childhood sexual abuse, for others it was forced oral sex or rape. For some, it will be something they would much rather not ever remember, something they may think they only imagined. Fearlessness will lead you to look at your own part in the sick relationships you have been in as an adult, and at the patterns that have been repeated over and over in your life. You need to look at these things with an attitude of courage and bravery You can, because in Step Three you turned your will and life over to the care of a loving God.
