Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Here is the commandment with a promise of a long life. I think generally most of us try to honor our parents. If you are fortunate to have had godly, loving, selfless parents, this commandment is easy. They have earned a place of honor and respect. In this situation it would be rational to respect them and allow their life and voice to have an influence in your life.

As adults you are not required to obey your parents, but honor them. You and your spouse can negotiate the appropriate boundaries that can be managed and still attempt an atmosphere of honor. Two hearts committed to the principle of honor will bring more peace to your miracle of marriage.
