We admitted we were powerless over our intimacy anorexia—that our lives had become unmanageable.
Again, I’m glad that there is a “we” here. I’m not the only one who is powerless. When we talk about power, we talk about control. Authority, strength or force gives us the ability to have power over someone else. But this word is just the opposite. This word is powerless and as we know, the suffix “less” means without. This is a tough reality for every intimacy anorexic. We are without any strength, power, control, or force to influence our addiction to withholding. This is why we need each other and a recovery program. Sometimes that is why we need therapy. We are powerless. We have tried not to withhold, without success.
