Stronger Together Series #2 - The Choice is Yours

>
I believe we all come to a crossroads at some point in our lives, and especially in our marriages, when the pain, frustration, and emotional exhaustion become overwhelming. We reach a place where we say, "That's it. I'm done. I can't do this anymore. I'm out."

Sometimes, that moment comes after years of disappointment, unmet expectations, unresolved conflict, or feeling disconnected from the person we once promised to love for a lifetime. We may feel as though we have given everything we have, yet nothing seems to change.

But it is often at this crossroads that we are faced with an important decision. Will we continue focusing on everything our spouse has done wrong, or will we take an honest look at ourselves and acknowledge the areas where we need to grow, heal, and change?

Real transformation begins when we become willing to take responsibility for our own hearts, attitudes, choices, and behaviors. We cannot control our spouse or force them to change, but we can take ownership of our own actions and how we respond to the challenges within our marriage.

As a Christian, this is the moment when I have to come before Christ with complete honesty and surrender. I have to be willing to say, "Lord, I can't handle this anymore. I'm exhausted, I'm hurting, and I don't know how to move forward. I've reached the end of what I can do in my own strength, and I need You to help me."

It is in that place of vulnerability, humility, and complete dependence on God that genuine transformation can begin.

When we stop pretending that everything is fine, stop justifying our own unhealthy behaviors, and become willing to face the truth about ourselves, we create room for Christ to work in our hearts.

Christ has the power to transform our hearts, renew our minds, and change the way we love. He can begin softening areas that have become hardened by resentment, restoring affection where emotional distance has taken root, and helping us develop the compassion, patience, and humility necessary for genuine connection.

This transformation does not mean ignoring the pain we have experienced, excusing harmful behavior, or taking responsibility for our spouse's choices. It means allowing God to work within us, regardless of where our spouse may be in their own journey.

Healing and change rarely happen overnight. They require honesty, intentional effort, accountability, and a willingness to surrender the patterns that have kept us stuck.

But when we invite Christ into those broken and difficult places, He can begin shifting our perspective, renewing our capacity to love, and guiding us toward healthier ways of relating to one another.

Sometimes the crossroads we thought marked the end of everything can become the very place where God begins a new work in us.

And while we cannot guarantee the outcome of our marriage, we can trust that surrendering our hearts to Christ is never wasted. Through Him, we can experience personal healing, lasting transformation, and a renewed ability to love with greater authenticity, grace, and purpose.
