The first seed of kindness we can sow into the heart of our spouse is words of kindness. Let’s start with responding kindly. For whatever reason, often when we get familiar with our spouse we can lazily move into being gruff, sarcastic, or demeaning in our responses to just normal questions. Our answers seem sharp instead of seasoned with grace.
If we just respond kindly toward our spouse there can be a powerful way of responding. We can assume that every question our spouse asks is an intelligent question. We can assume we always, and I mean always, have time to listen fully and answer any question our spouse has for us. Just responding kindly can make your spouse wonder what has gotten into you.
Another form of spoken kindness is the tone in which we speak. Some of us never technically say a wrong thing, but we have an unkind attitude in our communication. Remember we sow what we reap.
